July 12, 2007 Summer!
Happy Stampede, and hope everyone is getting out to their respective Folk Festivals and having a wonderful time...
We have corrected errata on our show page, with regard to the upcoming "Open Heart Symphony" show -- please check it out..
We hope to connect with some of our fans from across the border on Aug 3 in Port Colbourne, where we will be headlining that night's kickoff Canal Days concert!

June 29, 2007 The webby beavers have been busy, but not at our site. What's up with that?
All we can say at this point is that there is some talk about what exactly we can get up to next year. Why next year?
2008 marks SotW's 25th year of rockin' the freehouse!
Let's keep our pond filled, and the beaver hut warm and decorated, and see what develops...
January 28, 2007 SotW wishes you a Happy New Year!!
Currently we each have a number of activities and projects on the go. As a band, we are really looking forward to the Commodore shows in March, St. Paddy's weekend, with the warm-up at Mount Washington on the 15th. We love playing together, and the Commodore is one of our favourite venues of all time.
Individually, here are the highlights:
Vince Ditrich
"Vince R. Ditrich Mgmt & Production (www.vinsynch.com) continues to work full
blower.
In November & December Vince accompanied 'House of Doc'
(www.houseofdoc.com) to Poland & Germany for a highly successful albeit
brief European tour. In February and March Vince & the band will begin
recording HoD's next CD, the follow up to their breakthrough 'Prairiegrass'
(2005). At this time they are scheduled for a late June release, with Vince again acting as producer and Richard Sera mixing.
'Quinzy' (www.quinzy.ca) will be showcasing their new & improved lineup and
some spectacular new material at the Horseshoe Tavern on 31 January, 2007.
Legendary producer and long-time Spirit of the West colleague Michael
Phillip Wojewoda is slated to helm Quinzy's new project which is due to
start in late April/07.
Vince is still keeping his hand in the drumming game, too. On Jan 9th he
sat in as guest drummer with Colin James in Vancouver and he is very much
looking forward to Spirit shows in March.
Tobin Frank
* approaching the end of a very long renovation on our home. We've now been out 7 months, and are moving in 2 days before Xmas.
* Doing a lot of work with PG Music software. Got to work with legendary Nashville guitarist Brent Mason (http://www.pgmusic.com/guitarstarbm.htm) and have also done a great deal of work on PG Music's Band-in-a-Box program, most notably on the new "RealDrums" feature (http://www.pgmusic.com/realdrums2.htm)
* Over the year, I've done a number of CDs with producer David Essig (http://www.davidessig.com/). I'm most excited about a recording I did at David's place with a duo called "Teach Yourself Piano" (http://www.teachyourselfpiano.ca/main.php)
* Changed over 1000 poopy diapers
Geoffrey Kelly
I've been working on a memorial album of Paul "Lolly" Lawton songs with various West Coast artists, Tom Landa producing.
The Paperboys' second video to be shot this month for the Sting song "Fragile". The first video "Fall Down With Me" has been in the Much More Music Top 10 for several weeks.
Paperboys Europe tour from mid April to early June.
The Irish Rovers tour of New Zealand mid Sept to mid Oct.
I hope to have a second solo album done sometime this year.
John Mann
John has a new music project on the go. Its called Mister Mann and the new CD is titled December Looms. It will be soon be available for online sales and digital downloads on CD Baby and Amazon.com.
Its a stripped down Alt Folk album and you can listen to a few tracks on his myspace site.
John's Dates:
February 11th, Sunday from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm - John will be hosting a song writers workshop at the Kay Meek Theatre in West Vancouver , BC with Roy Forbes and Shari Ulrich.
February 15th, Thursday evening. John will be back at the Kay Meek Theatre singing songs from December Looms at a song writers cafe with Roy, Shari and Babe Gurr.
February 22nd, Thursday evening. John performs with Josh Ritter at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre
March 23, Friday evening, solo Mister Mann show at The Chapel in Vancouver, check his myspace or his website, www.mistermann.ca for upcoming details and ticket info.
Hugh McMillan
Busy with activities such as touring with James Keelaghan, Cara Luft, Oscar Lopez, preparing for upcoming "Compadres" (James + Oscar) recording and festival appearances, keeping up the SotW and Cara Luft websites... first "solo" recording tba, working on approach, material ...
