150 years of Highland Games in Victoria BC ..

Piping, drumming and Highland Dancing, it’s all happening in Victoria at the 150th Victoria Highland Games and Celtic Festival this May 11-19. From our perspective it’s double-triply exciting as we get to perform for the Festival at Sugar Nightclub on May 16.

Visit their website in order to find out all about this years games. There are numerous articles, posts, schedules and information and you can follow their twitter feed.

We’ll advance a little tidbit now to prime your interest: His Royal Highness the Duke of York will be on hand as Chief of the Games on Saturday and Sunday May 18-19!

Something tells us this is going to be a very special year for Scottish Culture in Victoria BC.

Three Decades of Green Beer

St. Paddy’s is just around the corner and we’re gearing up for another short tour to celebrate. We’ll be in Winnipeg on March 14th at McPhillips Station Casino to kick off a weekend of green beer. We have a great number of dedicated friends in The ‘Peg and we are delighted to be heading back to visit them again.

2013 marks our 30th anniversary as a band (we wouldn’t kid you about something like this…) Nearly every year since dinosaurs roamed the Earth we have played on or very close to St. Paddy’s day at The Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver. This year is no exception and our 30th will make it an extra special event. A great added bonus will be our special guests ‘Good for Grapes’. G4G are hot, young up & comers from the Vancouver area and we strongly suggest that you come out to see them at the Commodore NOW so that, in five years time, you can brag that, “I saw them when they were opening for Spirit….”

Beaumont rain-out

We were disappointed that our concert at the Beaumont Blues Fest was rained out this Labour day weekend. It looked so promising, but when we began setting up for our set, the clouds turned and rain steadily blew into the stage, gradually soaking everything in its path. The production manager was forced to call the show, as the PA and stage were not safe to use with the steady downpour being carried by wind into every nook and cranny.

We missed playing for you, Beaumont! Hopefully in the not-too-distant future we’ll have another chance. Thanks to everyone who braved the weather to stay in hopes the show could go on, and thanks to those folks who wrote us messages via our contact form expressing their thoughts on the day. Next time!

A bright point of the dreary wind driven day was briefly meeting aspiring artist Katie Anderson, who sent us this link to her video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5VPB-zxj5Y. Nice work Katie!
